UKM Medicine Interview Batch 17/18
It's the day-- 7th June 2017, the day where I had my UKM medicine interview in Merdeka Palace & Suites Hotel, Kuching. Well, still the 2nd best policy here, be as EARLY as possible. So i reached at 7 am, one hour early prior to the briefing time.

But first, here's the rooftop xD |
For everyone successfully securing UKM interview (be it an interview face-to-face or other projects), we are required to answer 150++ questions online, given one hour which is more than enough. Don't worry, it's an aptitude test (to know more about your personality), so best to answer based on own interests but not overview~

Well, did I mentioned that to be early also means that you have to know where is the registration counter? xD pardon me, but I and several interviewees waited at the lobby more than half an hour before realizing it wasn't the gathering spot. Without hesitant, we found the registration counter at the first floor. That's where we took our pink forms and filled up name, I.C., ...

While waiting at the lobby. My view haha |
Wait. Payment date? Payment reference no.?? Seriously I had no clue on what's listing on the form. I then asked a friendly girl, from Sibu, applying for nursing programme about it. She said we needed to pay a total of RM50 as administration fee, but really, I DID NOT KNOW A SINGLE THING ABOUT PAYMENT RM50, ever. That's when i realized as well, my Lampiran A & B (forms that we need to print out from online) were different from theirs! Ha Ha Ha, that must be a joke! (Too bad it wasn't) I then consulted another friend, Wayne, and indeed thankful to him for explaining why there were 2 versions of Lampiran. (I downloaded them on the first day, before they actually updated it with stating RM50 as administration fee). And really thanks Buddha, after one UKM interviewer said it was okay to make payment now, and old versions of Lampiran were no problem. Sigh a huge relief~
After registration, we are all assigned to gather in a quarantine room, regardless of nursing or medicine applicants. That's when i knew only applicants from these 2 programmes were called for interview. If you're applying biomedic, you have to shot a video describing your own biography; if engineer, prepare all the documents as listed.

The briefing starts.
"For our interview, it is not the ordinary personal interview, but we are using MMI--Multi Mini Interview. We have 5 stations, with 5 scenario questions given. There will be 2 minutes for you to read the question and plan your answer. After that, 5 minutes are allocated for you to present answer. Don't worry if you cannot deliver answer of 5 minutes long, our interviewers will help by asking you questions."
Basically, it's a station game. We were divided in groups of 10. Each station were assigned by numbers. We were also given 7 minutes to rest and wait for our turn in between each stations.
For e.g., station 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 are all stations with scenario questions. Station 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 are actually labelled on "chairs"--rest station. If you are sitting on chair no.4, you have to wait for 7 minutes for the others in the scenario station to finish presenting. Then, you head to station no. 5, following the number sequences. While the one previously in station no.5 have to rest and wait at chair no. 6 for his/ her next turn to station 7, and go on.
I was lucky to be in the first round. My sequence was: 4-5-6-7-8-9-10-1-2-3. And now, let the station game begun!
Scenario questions: (not following station numbers)
1. COMPULSARY in ENGLISH:
Your diabetes mellitus aunty wants to take Stiveo (a sugar substitute), after recommended by her friend.
She asks your opinion about Stiveo (sugar substitute).
What should you do?
2. COMPULSARY in BM:
Kawan baik anda bercita-cita untuk menjadi seorang doktor. Namun, dia gagal dipilih menghadiri temuduga fakulti perubatan.
Apakah yang harus kamu lakukan?
3. You can choose BM/ BI but avoid mixing both.
In recent, there's a lot of medical graduates. However, this causes oversupply of housemen and they have to wait to get housemanship.
What is you opinion?
4. You can choose BM/ BI but avoid mixing both.
You and your friend get the chance to observe in an operating theatre. Your friend took a photo with his smartphone, without the patient's permission. He planned to post in his blog.
What would you do?
5. You can choose BM/ BI but avoid mixing both.
You need to hurry to pay your tuition fee. Your scholarship money has not yet arrived. From a low income family, you know that your parents would not afford to pay your tuition fee. It's the first time you are experiencing this and you begin to feel frustrated and hopeless.
What would you do?

Well, all I can say is, there's no wrong or right answers for these questions. The interviewers wants to know what are your approaches to those scenario, maybe a little about how you view things in daily life. Everyone's answers vary, and we cannot say whose is better. All we need to do is to be brave and confident on your points and show enthusiasm (by believing what you say).
One more thing--you never know how the interviewers are, it's best to be alert at all times and greet people politely even before entering quarantine room. It turned out to be the registration madams are also interviewers. :D The interviewers are not as fierce as you think xD They are very attentive when you present your views. And of course, they were friendly as they would smiled often to you~
After an hour or more, we the first round were done with MMI. We were then again, 'quarantine' at the outside. Before we entered the MMI interview room, all of us were required to switch off handphones and put our bags aside. Only until the second group came out then we were allowed to take our belongings and head back home~
Before we went back, we filled in questionnaire (survey form), asking for opinions about MMI interviews. This will help them to better understand the expectations and also suggestions to improve the MMI.
I will like to use this opportunity to convey my appreciation to my UKM Medic senior, Hui Ci, for constantly guiding me and solve my inquiries~ <3
